Victim identified in Thursday morning Golden Gate homicide

Collier County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide that left one man dead and another seriously injured in Golden Gate early Thursday morning.

According to CCSO, Armando Castillo, 25, was killed around 2:30 a.m. The sheriff’s office received a call about the shooting near the 4000 block of Golden Gate Parkway near the intersection of Collier Boulevard.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found two men shot. Castillo died at the scene, and the other was declared a trauma alert and flown to a local hospital.

Detectives interviewed several people but have no suspects as of now.

Joel Figuero and dozens of other guests staying at the Quality Inn on Golden Gate Parkway said they were woken up Thursday morning by the sound of rapid gunfire.

“Just the sounds of shots was scary because you hear about eight to 10 shots and then this person crying out for help,” Figuero said. “And then you don’t hear them anymore. Then, you just hear eight to 10 more shots after.”

Melanie Allen was also a guest at the Quality Inn. She said screams could be heard from her room on the second floor of the hotel that woke her up immediately from sleep.

“It was very disturbing,” Allen said. “I’m not gonna lie, but I’m not going to let it stand in the way of enjoying the area, the area is beautiful.”

Ronald Ortlieb believes this incident was intentional.

“That’s a crime of passion,” Ortlieb said. “That just wasn’t a chance running into a robbery or something. That guy was or person was angry at that other person — very angry.”

This is an ongoing investigation, and CCSO asks anybody with information to contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300.
