Are you tipping your service workers enough this holiday season?

From the server at your favorite restaurant, to the hairdresser you see several times a year, people are trying to pay it forward to service workers this holiday season.

“From a maid service standpoint I normally double the amount especially during the holiday seasons,” said Edward Dlugolenski, who lives in Lee County.

Officials say, that’s actually pretty on par with what house officials suggest. They suggest for people you see regularly, like housekeepers, babysitters, lawn care, a good rule of thumb is to tip the total amount of one typical service.

For restaurant workers, officials say if you normally give 18 to 20 percent, try to give 25 to  30 percent.

Workers say, the extra tip gives them a boost.

“We do heavily rely on tips depending on where we work so It is nice this time of year we have to do shopping ourselves so it is nice to get a little extra to help make ends meet,” said Erin Pearl who works as a massage therapist.

Above all, it is important to remember to stay within your own budget, and don’t put yourself in debt this holiday season.
