There were two fatalities in a crash on Interstate 75 in Lee County early Sunday morning.

Diego Lopez, 26, who died from the crash, was driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue at 2 a.m. with four passengers in his vehicle. All occupants live in Fort Myers.

These passengers included Maria Miguel, 19, who also died in the crash. Kevin Lopez, 3, had serious injuries from the crash. Juan Lopez, 17, and Israel Lopez, 23, had minor injuries from the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Deigo was driving the Nissan Rogue northbound in the outside lane of I-75 at mile marker 133. As he approached Colonial Blvd., the vehicle suddenly veered off the roadway toward the right striking barbed wire fence, per the FHP press release.

The Nissan Rogue became airborne, crossing over a retention pond and struck an embankment with the front portion of the vehicle.
