A tragic crash killed a woman who was walking across the street with her granddaughter. They were walking to a neighborhood park in Lee County. The woman’s granddaughter crossed the street first; when she tried to catch up, she was hit by an oncoming car.

Florida Highway Patrol confirmed Sharon Louise Kelchner, 70, was killed in a crash while trying to cross Three Oaks Parkway Friday.

The crash has caused the area in Three Oaks just south of Alico Road to be shut down by law enforcement.

Witnesses told WINK News they ran over to the woman to perform CPR before an ambulance arrived and took her to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Kelchner had recently moved from Trout Run, Pennsylvania to the area with her family.

Travis Minoli, a neighbor who lives near where the crash happened, described the scene after he went to see where the commotion was coming from.

“I was sitting in my house, didn’t really hear much other than a bunch of sirens and walked out, and there was blood and cars and cop cars,” Travis Minoli said.

It is not yet known if the driver who hit the woman will face any charges.
