The Lee County School District sent notices to parents giving a heads up that deputies would be performing “roll calls” at Three Oaks Elementary School on Tuesday and Wednesday and that students and parents should not be alarmed.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office called the roll calls a “routine practice” and say they will occur sporadically throughout the year at random campuses throughout the district.

When asked, LCSO said the roll calls can happen at various locations besides campuses, such as malls or even in neighborhoods, and they stress that these are not meant to alarm anyone. The sheriff’s office says advanced notice of rolls calls are not made public to protect deputies’ safety.

The school district says the roll calls at Three Oaks Elementary this week occurred before students were allowed on campus.
