With the cold air coming in to Southwest Florida, many people will be switching their heaters on. Wink News has some advice to make sure your family and your home is safe when using heaters.

We were told by Bruno Home Performance, the first thing they advise is to make sure your furnace is clear of debris. Since they are not used often in SWFL, it’s easy to forget to maintain them.

Bruno Home Performance also says, most people make common mistakes when turning on home unit service.

“Sometimes you turn it on, and probably expect it to instantaneously heat up your house. It’s more of a toaster heater, so it’s going to take some tome to remove the chill from the air,” said Nick Coraci.”

They also recommend using a blanket if you can, because running the heater can increase your bill.
