22-month-old dies after incident in Tice residential driveway

The driveway in a Tice neighborhood where Juan Sebastian Antonio, 28, unaware of the 22-month-old, hit Pedro Oxlaj Juanta while driving a 2011 Toyota Sienna van Sunday.

A 22-month-old baby boy died after a van hit him in the driveway of 4439 Bessie Avenue in Tice Sunday morning.

Juan Sebastian Antonio, 28, hit Pedro Oxlaj Juanta while driving his 2011 Toyota Sienna van Sunday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Antonio has no relation to Juanta.

WINK News spoke to a woman who tried to save his life after Juanta was hit by the van. 

“I took the baby from the daddy, trying to get him on his side so he can breathe and get all of the blood he had in his nose and his throat out to get him to wake up,” Melissa Hernadez said.

Juanta was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Juanta’s family was arriving home soon after he had been hit by Antonio driving the van.

“this is a constant reminder too always look for children always,” Hernadez.

The investigation is ongoing.
