Residents in a Lehigh Acres neighborhood told WINK News they consider moving after a man was shot close to home.

“Even if it’s just a one time thing, that does make me question and second-guessed the area,” Felix Cruz said. “I’m with my daughter. My first priority is to go to location that is calm as possible.”

Paul Peterson, 28, was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of Homer Ave. South and 2nd St. SW.

“I figured they were just fireworks then after a while I go outside,” Felix Cruz. “I see the cops here, and I go, ‘OK, I guess they’re not fireworks they were gunshots.'”

Emergency Medical Services transported Peterson to Lee Memorial Hospital where he succumb to his injuries.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived on the scene to assume the investigation.

Call Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS, if you have any information from the incident.
