Collier man arrested for grand theft at Super Target

A man was arrested after employees at a department store caught him stealing store merchandise.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrested Yoan Leon Gonzalez, 33, at a Super Target for grand theft Thursday night.

According to the report, an employee witnessed Gonzalez stealing the items at the self-checkout register. Officer Raymond Trujillo was on duty at the Target when a store employee asked Trujillo to approach Gonzalez with him. When confronted by them, Gonzalez was asked for his receipt, and he confessed he did not pay for all the items in his cart. Gonzalez followed law enforcement back to the businesses’ office and was arrested and taken to jail.

In the report, deputies were told surveillance video also showed Gonzalez properly scan clothing from his cart then acted as if he was scanning merchandise, placing his hand over the bar code, which prevented the scanner from checking the merchandise.

Gonzalez stole more than $1,600 in store items, including two wireless headphones, a wireless speaker, two smart watches and a traditional wristwatch.

Gonzalez remains in jail on $5,000 bond.
