Body of missing boater found near Punta Rassa is Minnesota racetrack owner

The body of a missing boater who went overboard near Punta Rassa Sunday has been found.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office says John Copham, 47, reportedly fell overboard Sunday near the Sanibel Causeway. Multiple agencies searched the water in the area but he had not been located and the search was temporarily halted until daybreak.

At 9:50 a.m. Monday LCSO received a call about a body at the Punta Rassa Boat Ramp.

The investigation is ongoing and LCSO says there “appears to be no criminal aspect to the investigation.”

Copham has been racing since 2006 and owns the Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd Minnesota.

He’s a father of a 12 year old son, a 17 year old daughter and has a wife of 18 years.
