Despite new Sunshine Protection Act bill passing that keeps Florida in daylight savings time all year around, we are still setting back our clocks on Nov. 4. Making the change official is not an easy task. An Florida Gulf Coast University professor said he thinks the possibility of it passing through congress is slim to none. The change would alter federal law and would take some time to change, but it is a long way down the congressional agenda. State Senators like Marco Rubio are for the change and say it would bring a reduction in car crashes, and a reduction in robberies, although neither have much evidence to back that claim. The bill was passed in Florida, and signed by Governor Rick Scott, but is still waiting approval from U.S. Congress. FGCU Professor Begerson says even if it does pass, it would take a year to implement.
