Cape Coral Police Department determined the shots fired near Santa Barbara Boulevard S was part of a domestic altercation between a wife and husband. The wife was arrested.

CCPD arrested Chrishara Monique Dawson, 23, for attempted second degree murder Monday.

Dawson and her husband got into a verbal argument within at their Santa Barbara Blvd S. apartment. Dawson grabbed a handgun while her husband began to flee. Dawson chased her husband outside, as he was attempting to get to their vehicle to leave. She fired multiple rounds from the handgun at her husband and the vehicle tires. The husband then fled the area in the vehicle but returned after the incident had been deemed safe.

Four people were initially detained and questioned regarding the gunshots. Dawson was among the four and determined to be the suspect. There were no injuries related to the gunshots from Dawson.

Clarissa Engelhart was riding her bicycle around Santa Barbara and SW 29th Terr. when she came across a chaotic scene. Several cops took positions around an apartment complex surrounded in crime scene tape.

“I was really scared when I see there is a gun shooting in the middle of Cape Coral,” Engelhart said.

Monday’s scary scene all started when Cape Coral Police were called to a busy Santa Barbara Blvd. to reports of 10 to 15 gunshots.

Petrified neighbors, such as Engelhart, watched Cape Coral Police strategically handling the situation with guns drawn.

The BearCat, an armored vehicle designed for active shooter situations and other high pressure scenarios, was called in. It rolled into the parking lot.

The shooting closed down parts of Santa Barbara.

An elementary school just blocks away even locked its doors, bringing all of the students inside for safety.

“Oh, my goodness,” Kelly Hill said. “What is going on?”

Hill lives across the street from Monday’s commotion.

“Just to see like the tape and everything around that was just extremely shocking,” Hill said.
