Serious traffic crash leaves three injured and one dead

A traffic accident leaves one dead and three other injured in Cape Coral, according to Cape Coral Police.

CCPD says, a Toyota Tacoma truck carrying 3 people was traveling west on Diplomat Pkwy W, approaching the intersection with Nelson Rd N, in the outside lane and at a high speed.

A Toyota Corolla was traveling south on Nelson Rd N, approaching the intersection with Diplomat Pkwy W, and in the inside lane.

The Corolla stopped at the stop sign and then began to proceed south across the intersection.

The Tacoma failed to stop at the stop sign and skidded into the intersection.

The front of the Tacoma collided with the driver’s door of the Corolla. The impact forced the Corolla to the west for approximately 90 feet where it came to final rest facing to the southwest across both westbound lanes of Diplomat Pkwy.

After the impact, the Tacoma continued traveling to the west along Diplomat Pkwy.

The Tacoma came to final rest facing to the southeast in the west outside lane of Diplomat Pkwy.

The driver of the Corolla suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The driver and passengers of the truck suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, and all were transported to a local hospital.

None of the occupants in the Tacoma were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma did not have a driver’s license. The investigation is on-going and charges are pending.

Alcohol and drugs were a factor in the traffic crash.
