Starting in just three days, residents should expect construction at Hancock Bridge Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard in Cape Coral.

The project could take months to complete.

Lee County is working to make the intersection safer by lengthening the left turn lanes.

But people nearby say they don’t have any issues with the current roadway and are worried about the traffic congestion that might come with the construction.

“Rush hour, it’s going to kill everything trying to come down Hancock,” one driver said.

Starting Monday, crews will shut down lanes to make three of the left turn lanes longer.

Residents like Roger Neal are worried about the headache since the changes to the left turn lanes will then permanently shut down a turn his neighborhood at northeast 17th Avenue.

“However I can go another direction in and out so you know I understand the price of progress and so I’m sure we will get through it,” Neal said.

The project is expected to cost a little less than $300,000 with work extending until February.
