Deputies make an arrest in Collier County homicide

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection to a Collier homicide.

Santiago J. Burbano, 20, faces charges of murder related to a death investigation Thursday night at 8660 Weir Drive.

CCSO says they received a call from Clara Isabel Martinez Cequera, saying her son had killed his girlfriend.

When CCSO arrived at the scene, they found Rubi De Los Angeles Velasco, 18, dead in the apartment.

Officials say, Velasco was laying on a bed with lacerations around her neck, and a knife was found nearby.

According the reports, Cequera went to check on Burbano and Velasco in the room but the door was locked. As she was outside the door Burbano yelled to his mom, “mommy, mommy, I killed Rubi.”

She convinced him to unlock the door and that’s when she found Rubi on the bed, and Burbano had a rifle pointed to his head.

Caquera convinced her son to put down the ridle and not harm himself.

Shortly after CCSO entered the room and took Burbano into custody.

The community gathered to mourn the loss of Velasco Friday. WINK News reporter Hannah Vogel was live in Naples with her family and friends. Watch the full segment below:
