Cape Coral man killed in motorcycle crash

One person died late Friday night in a crash on Hancock Bridge Parkway East, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

Leslie Burden, 71, of Cape Coral, was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound in the left turning lane on the 100 block of Hancock Bridge Parkway East, police said. He turned left across the the westbound lanes and into the path of a 2014 Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep was traveling westbound in the inside travel lane, and the front of the Jeep hit the right side of the motorcycle, according to police.

Burden was thrown from the motorcycle following the crash, while his passenger fell from the bike after it hit a curb, according to police. The driver of the Jeep continued on the road for approximately 419 feet before pulling to the curb in the right turn lane.

Burden later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while his passenger was seriously hurt, police said. Neither Burden nor his passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the wreck.

Alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to police. The driver of the Jeep, 36-year-old Jacqueline Castillo, of Cape Coral, allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested in connection with the wreck.
