A 30-year-old man accused of possessing drugs was arrested Thursday, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

Officers located a suspicious vehicle around 12:30 a.m. at a parking lot in downtown Fort Myers.

While questioning the driver, Michael Earl Dukes Jr., of Fort Myers, fled on foot with a loaded gun, police said. Dukes Jr. dropped a fully loaded magazine cartridge while attempting to escape authorities.

A K-9 team was able to track down Dukes Jr. in a nearby alleyway, police said. A second gun was found inside of the vehicle. An investigation concluded one of the guns had been reported stolen by the Cape Coral Police Department.

Dukes Jr. faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon by a felon, resisting arrest, possession of drugs and a bullet proof vest, police said.

Dukes Jr. is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on March 5.

Bond has not yet been set.
