1 killed, 1 injured in overnight shooting on Polk Street in Fort Myers

One person was killed and another injured in a shooting late Friday night on Polk Street, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.

The shooting took place shortly after 11 p.m. on the 900 block of Polk Street, police said.

Kevin Lamont James, 40, succumbed to his injuries at the scene and a woman was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where she is being treated for her wounds, police said.

There is no danger to the general public, police said. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 239-321-7700 or leave an anonymous tip through tip411 on the FMPD website.

In addition tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
