A Christmas toy drive hosted Sunday in Immokalee raised the spirits of underprivileged children.

The event was organized by veterans involved in the American Military Veterans Foundation to help families still recovering from Hurricane Irma.

“It helps out tremendously … You know it’s stressful around the holidays, especially when you are short-handed financially, but this is awesome right here,” Collier County resident Annie Lara said.

More than 300 gifts were handed out at the First Assembly of God church on 650 Second Avenue, Immokalee.

“A lot of the parents’ money is spent on other stuff, because of the hurricane. We realized there wouldn’t be any toys for Christmas,” pastor Arnie Coones said.
