ORLANDO, Fla. (WKMG) Parents of trick-or-treaters warned Halloween candy may be marijuana.

However, officials are now warning parents to keep an eye out for marijuana-laced candy during Halloween.

Edible marijuana candy that looks just like more traditional treats has become popular over the past few years as pot is generally more accepted around the U.S.

But concerns over children and marijuana candy continue to grow. In May, a 10-year-old New York boy overdosed after eating a gummy bear candy laced with the drug.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health, marijuana candy contains THC levels up to 90 percent, compared to the 20 percent found in marijuana vegetation.

Parents are urged to check candy for unusual packaging and contact police if items have a marijuana odor, and to wear vinyl or non-latex gloves if handling marijuana candy.
