BIG SUR, Calif. A Cape Coral man is accused of starting a fire in California, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Manneback was illegally camping in the Partington Canyon area when he started a warming fire, deputies said. The fire caught sections of dry needles and grass on fire.

California State Parks maintenance workers noticed the smoke in the canyon and took action battling the blaze, deputies said. The Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade and U.S.Forest Service firefighters contained the blaze to a 100 foot by 100 foot section.

Manneback was arrested and transported to the Monterey County Jail where charges are pending. He faces a $55,000 bond.
