BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. A Navy veteran dedicated to helping others who’ve served is one of five law enforcement officers up for Lee County Officer of the Year.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Bobby Hunter could hear his named called when the honor is handed out at the sold-out Law & Order Ball, sponsored by WINK News, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at Germain Arena in Estero.

Hunter works to support veterans on and off the clock, helping homeless veterans find shelter, a home or a hot meal.

He’s also tried to make Bonita Springs, his family’s hometown, more veteran-friendly. Downtown Bonita now has a brick walkway honoring local veterans and a memorial monument.
