NAPLES, Fla. Collier County commissioners may want to impose a new storm water fee.

The fee would apply to every homeowner in unincorporated Collier County and it would cover the cost of cleaning out debris and replacing old drainage pipes.

It’s unclear how much the fee would be at this time, but some homeowners do not like the idea.

The storm drains and ditches near Logan Boulevard flood every summer, according to Collier County resident Roger Bergmann, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years.

“As a senior citizen on a fixed income, where am I going to get that money,” Bergmann said.

Other nearby counties and cities already have a utility fee for storm water in place. The City of Naples charges $156, Charlotte County charges $128 and Sarasota charges $90.

Commissioners are expected to make a final decision about the fee in February.
