FEMA Disaster Recovery Center opens in LaBelle

LABELLE, Fla. A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center opened Thursday at the LaBelle (Hendry County) Office of Emergency Management.

The center at 4425 W. State Road 80 in LaBelle will provide information about assistance programs and give residents a forum for their questions. It will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until Oct. 9.

The center is designed as a resource — it’s not necessary to go there to receive FEMA aid. For those who do visit, registration with FEMA is strongly recommended.

Southwest Florida homeowners, renters and business owners can register at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or via the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362, a phone line staffed 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week until further notice, according to the agency.

FEMA is still encouraging Irma victims to use its website as the primary means to assistance. One part of the site helps victims who’ve already applied for assistance and whose homes were destroyed find hotels while their homes are being repaired.
