CAPE CORAL, Fla. An arrest has been made more than a year after a nurse was accused of raping a patient at Cape Coral Hospital.

Jeovanni Hildebrand Hechavarria, 35, of the 5300 block of Summerlin Road in Fort Myers, was taken into custody Wednesday by U.S. Marshals, according to an arrest report. A floor supervisor told a Cape Coral Police Officer in July 2016 that a patient said she was raped in her hospital bed.

Police began investigating after they were informed, according to an incident report. Marshals began looking for Hechevarria on Tuesday. It’s unclear why the investigation took as long as it did.

Hechavarria is also accused of threatening the victim that he would rape her again and warning her not to tell anyone what happened, according to Health Department documents.

He was fired one day after the rape is said to have taken place. The Florida Department of Health has barred him from working with female patients at any hospital unless a supervisor is present.

Hechavarria is being held at the Lee County Jail facing a sexual assault charge. Bond has not been set.
