SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. One person was killed Friday after a three-vehicle crash along U.S. 41, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash took place at 12:10 p.m. on U.S. 41 and Briarcliff Road, the FHP said. Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane were blocked on U.S. 41.

Kristen B. Mines, 36, of Naples, was driving a 2011 Kia Optima northbound on U.S. 41 in the center lane and began to change lanes directly in the path of Felicia T. Young, 31, of Lehigh Acres, who was driving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound in the inside lane of U.S. 41.

The left side of the Kia Optima sideswiped the right side of Young’s vehicle, the FHP said. Young traveled over the median, onto the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 and crashed into the front of a 2005 Ford Explorer being driven by Otoniel Angel-Sanchez, 21, of Fort Myers, who was traveling southbound on U.S. 41.

Young, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said. Mines, Angel-Sanchez and his passenger sustained minor injuries.

Mines faces charges of improper change of lanes and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
