Hurricane Jose continues northward track

FORT MYERS, Fla. Hurricane Jose maintained its status as a Category 1 storm Monday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Hurricane Jose’s maximum sustained winds are at 75 mph and the system is moving north at 10 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center said. The storm is about 250 miles east Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and about 445 miles west of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

“Dangerous surf and rip currents (are) expected to continue along the East Coast of the United States,” the National Hurricane Center said.

Jose is expected to weaken into a tropical storm and continue to move north before making a loop off the New England coast and ultimately dissipating, WINK meteorologist Scott Zedeker said.
