SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. A 25-year-old Fort Myers man was killed when he was ejected from a car that hit two utility poles, flipped over, and landed in water, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Damas Etienne was pronounced dead after the one-car crash, which took place at 2:07 a.m. Wednesday on San Carlos Boulevard near Broadway Avenue, which is just south of Pine Ridge Road, the FHP said.

The crash temporarily blocked San Carlos in both directions.

The 2006 Honda Accord he was traveling in went onto the right shoulder of northbound San Carlos, hit a crub and went into the poles, according to the FHP. Another occupant, 25-year-old Lisa Lerissette of Lehigh Acres, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

It’s unclear whether Etienne or Lerissette was driving. The FHP continues to investigate.
