Tropical depression forms in Gulf of Mexico

FORT MYERS, Fla. A new tropical depression has formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Tropical Depression 13 has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. It sits just off the coast of Mexico and is moving east at 2 mph.

The storm is expected to turn southwesterly and make landfall in central Mexico sometime late Friday or early Saturday.

It is not expected to affect Southwest Florida.
