CAPE CORAL, Fla. It was a day full of family fun at the Red, White and Boom celebration.

The annual event is considered one of the largest single day events in Southwest Florida, attracting nearly 40,000 people to the Cape Coral River, despite high temperatures and afternoon showers.

“Weather doesn’t stop us we come no matter what,” resident Annette Peters said. “When we got here today, it was pouring rain. But we waited a little bit, it stopped raining and we came.”

While those in attendance enjoyed the food and fireworks, nobody forgot the real reason for the festivities.

“America is the greatest place on earth,” resident Steve Hostick said.

The Cape Coral Bridge will remain closed until 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
