FORT MYERS, Fla. Lee County is imposing a ban on outdoor burning, joining most other Southwest Florida municipalities that have done so over the past few weeks.

Commissioners voted 5-0 to have the county attorney draft a resolution for a burn ban, county spokeswoman Betsy Clayton said. The attorney delivered that resolution Tuesday, a move that put the ban into effect for the next seven days.

Commission Chairman John Manning can extend the ban after the seven days are up without a vote from the other commissioners.

The rule will cover campfires, bonfires and trash fires.
