Fort Myers High girls hoopsters get more gear from LeBron

FORT MYERS, Fla. It’s good to be watched by the King.

The Fort Myers High School girls basketball team is learning that after receiving a second set of gifts from NBA superstar LeBron James in a six-month span.

“I guess we just got that oomph that draws him in,” Green Wave guard Bethany Brunson said.

“King” James had more than just oomph to prompt his generosity. The team just won its second consecutive state title.

“At the end of the note, he put three-peat, so I guess he’s kinda shooting for us to win again,” Brunson said.

For now, the team is basking in the glow of its latest championship and recognition from the four-time NBA MVP.

“It’s very cool because he’s actually my favorite NBA player,” Brunson said.

The first package from James contained a letter and basketball shoes. This time, the Green Wave got a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan “Strive for Greatness,” a letter and a congratulatory video message.

It took coach Chad Terrell by surprise.

“I was like what, really?” Terrell said.

The coach isn’t exactly sure why James has taken such a shine to the team, but he can understand the message he’s trying to get across.

“If you put in the hard work, all your dreams could come true, and that’s what he’s doing,” Terrell said. “He’s trying to show kids, if you put in the hard work, you can do the things I do.”

And maybe if the Green Wave come through on that three-peat, James’ next delivery will fulfill a request from Brunson.

“I wish he kind of would have done it in person,” she said.
