FORT MYERS, Fla. Vice President Mike Pence will visit Southwest Florida as early as this weekend, according to a notice from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Airspace around Sanibel has been designated as “national defense airspace,” which is common when the president or vice-president visits an area, between April 8-14, the FAA said.

The Sanibel Causeway and other roads are expected to close during the high-profile visit.

The Federal Aviation Administration will issue a temporary flight restriction for private planes April 8 through April 14.

Commercial flights won’t be affected, Yoanna Flight School chief instructor Lubomir M. Gueorguiev said.

Private pilots who violate the order could be fined, lose their license or even be taken to jail, Gueorguiev said.

The purpose and other details of Pence’s trip were not immediately known.
