NAPLES, Fla. A 53-year-old woman is accused of leading deputies on a wild pursuit and nearly running over a Florida Department of Transportation road ranger while intoxicated, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Pedro Miranda was responding to a minor car accident Tuesday morning on Interstate 75 northbound near State Road 29 when Donna Delgado, of White Plains, New York, side swiped his truck with her white Nissan, nearly killing him in the process.

“I was walking and when I saw the car coming, I jumped over the truck,” he said.

Although numerous deputies were pursuing Delgado, she made no attempt to slow down, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies eventually were forced to deploy stop sticks to stop the Nissan, which was a rental car.

When deputies confronted Delgado, they noticed she smelled of alcohol and her eyes were bloodshot, according to deputies. She couldn’t follow commands and appeared incoherent.

Delgado was transported to NCH due to her inebriated state. She wouldn’t admit to deputies she was involved in a crash because she couldn’t remember it, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies took Delgado’s blood alcohol level, she blew a .241, according to arrest reports. Several beer cans were also found in her car.

Delgado is in custody facing charges of eluding law enforcement, DUI property damage for the rental car and Miranda’s truck, as well as leaving the scene of a crash.

She is being held on a $19,000 bond.
