Developer files application for proposed Fort Myers Beach resort

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. After a couple of failed attempts, the application for a proposed resort downtown is finally awaiting approval.

TPI Hospitality, a Naples-based company, first announced their plans in 2015 to build a 10-acre resort full of amenities such as arcades, stores, restaurants and a water park.

However, previous plans were rejected by the community, as many felt they were too excessive. Chamber of Commerce president Jackie Liszak, who is for the new resort, had a difficult time getting others on board.

“Not everybody had the same vision for that area and people care passionately about that island and what’s going to go there,” she said.

But Lisak believes this latest proposal may become reality and bring business to the island.

“People tend to leave resorts and go to surrounding businesses and restaurants, and see the other attractions on the island,” Liszak said.

If approved, the downtown area will be torn down and rebuilt as part of the resort.

There is no scheduled date for when town staff plans to vote on this application.
