ARCADIA, Fla. A 67-year-old woman was killed following a three-vehicle crash Thursday that shut down State Road 31 in both directions near County Road 760A, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Gail Amaral, of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP. She was a passenger in 83-year-old Eugene Amaral’s Nissan Altima.

The wreck took place shortly before 2 p.m. Robbie Alsobrook, 56, of Avon Park, was traveling south on State Road 31 when Eugene Amaral, 83, of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, cut in front of him and struck the front of his semi-truck.

The Nissan skidded off the road and landed on its roof in a nearby ditch, troopers said.

After the collision, the semi-truck spun out and sideswiped 38-year-old Lois Stanley’s Dodge Caravan.

Roland Smith, 50, a passenger in the Nissan, and Eugene Amaral were both transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Charges are pending an investigation.
