Neighborhood reacts to Pinnacle Apartments shooting

SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. Residents of the Pinnacle Apartments expressed worry, distress but not necessarily surprise after waking up Sunday morning to find crime scene tape covering the complex.

“When I left to leave my apartment there was caution tape everywhere, and I was actually trapped in by caution tape,” resident Joey Jennings said.

The tape was up for an investigation that led to the arrest of Lehigh Acres resident Morgan Reilly, 19, who’s accused of a shooting at the apartments. Reilly allegedly fled and was taken into custody hours later near the Matanzas Pass Bridge in Fort Myers Beach.

Although Reilly is behind bars, those with ties to Pinnacle Apartments were unnerved by the weekend’s events.

“I’m not gonna lie, it’s definitely a little concerning, said Aaron Rex, whose girlfriend lives in the apartment complex. “If anybody says otherwise they’re obviously lying.”

This wasn’t the first time Jennings witnessed an increased law enforcement presence in the area.

“This situation wasn’t as surprising because I have seen that specific [building] have police activity over the last like six months I’ve been living here,” Jennings said.

Still, Jennings maintains his belief in the majority of the people who live in the complex.

“I think that this is the 3 percent and the 97 percent is the neighbor who would welcome you in and make you a meal,” Jennings said.

Reilly is being held on a $1 million bond. He faces multiple charges including attempted murder, armed burglary, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and fleeing from police.
