PUNTA GORDA, Fla. Friends and family of a 14-year-old boy killed in a hit-and-run crash gathered at Charlotte BMX Inc. Saturday for a memorial dedication nearly a year after his death. “He just loved the feeling of being free and he was doing what he loved when he was killed,” said Devin Federly’s life was cut short when he was hit by a truck while trying to cross near the intersection of State Avenue and Sheehan Boulevard in Port Charlotte. The suspect sped off as witnesses tried to help Federly, circling back to the scene twice before fleeing for good. “It feels today like it happened last week, and finding this person and prosecuting this person is not going to bring Devin back,” said “It’s not gonna take away the hurt, but it will take a little bit of the sting away.” The truck believed to have hit Federly is a silver 2003 to 2006 Chevy Silverado. “I just dont know how you could sleep at night knowing what you had to have known, especially since you came back,” said “How could you sleep at night knowing you killed a child? You killed many people’s entire world. I want people to continue to talk about it and keep it out there until this persons caught and brought to justice.” Anyone with information is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-344-1730 or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-8477.
