EAST NAPLES, Fla. A 24-year-old man accused of shooting a woman outside a bar in January has been formally charged with third-degree murder, according to the state attorney’s office.

Carlos Rodriguez was already facing charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after he allegedly shot and killed Kelsey Engelsen, 24, at the Break Time Lounge on 4630 Gulfstream Drive.

Although the motive for the shooting remains unclear, Rodriguez was involved in an argument between several people in the back parking lot of the lounge prior to the shooting, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mike Hysler, owner of the lounge and the victim’s boyfriend, misses Engelsen dearly and doesn’t believe she deserved to die.

“He’s going to end up in jail for life and I hope that’s what happens to him,” he said. “I hope he’s miserable the whole time he’s there, I hope it sucks.”

Rodriguez is due in court Monday for an arraignment.
