District unveils new programs for Bonita Springs High School

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. — Future students of Bonita Springs High School will now have an advantage over their peers with the new academic programs in store.

“This is going to be a high school unlike any of the other high schools we have,”  said Marc Mora, chief of staff for the Lee County School District. “Listening to parents and being able to put something together that satisfies all those needs is a very fulfilling type of work.”

When the school opens, students will have access to classes that will earn them an associate degree, lead them to an advanced placement international diploma and introduce them to the Air Force Junior ROTC.

Rita Effing, director of Adult and Career Education for the district, said the new school will also help students become airplane pilots, find a career in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, as well as learning how to grow crops.

“We are very excited, because it is an opportunity,” she said. “When you know that you can bridge that gap and make your community better by making better opportunities for your students, it is a really good feeling.”

Bonita Springs High School is scheduled to open in 2018.
