CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The city voted 4-3 Monday to annex five acres of land near Matlacha in spite of vehement protest from nearby residents, many of whom oppose development.

A long line of residents anxious to speak against annexation could be seen waiting to enter Monday’s City Council meeting. The city hasn’t made any decision about what will go on the land, which it already owns, though the council discussed the possibility of selling it.
