FORT MYERS, Fla. — Two off-duty Cape Coral firefighters rescued a driver from his burning car in the Midpoint Bridge.

Ryan Lamb, who was one of the firefighters, told WINK News they were on their way home from class when they saw the crash in the eastbound lane, smoke still coming out of the car.

The driver, 21-year-old Tyler Sylvia, crashed his black Cadillac into a tractor trailer parked on the bridge. It took firefighters over an hour to extricate Sylvia from his car.

He is currently in the hospital recovering from surgery for his two broken legs and punctured lung.
