Collier County teacher’s aide arrested for slapping blind student

GOLDEN GATES, Fla. — A substitute teacher’s assistant was arrested Thursday for allegedly slapping a blind student at Big Cypress Elementary School, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said surveillance footage shows 47-year-old Barbara Margaron slapping a second-grader after he kept nudging his lunch tray back and forth. A school employee witnessed the incident and notified the school principal.

This is Margaron’s second recorded incident of physical behavior towards students, police reports show. While working at Poinciana Elementary School in Naples as a substitute teacher’s assistant, Margaron grabbed a fourth-grader and left a red mark on her arm.

While Margaron wasn’t arrested, but was removed from the school.

Margaron is currently in custody facing a battery charge and no longer works for the school district. She has a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 30.
