CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Cape Coral Police officer sustained minor injuries Sunday evening after his vehicle flipped over on the 2500 block of Santa Barbara Boulevard South, the department said.

The officer, who was not intimately identified, was driving a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria with his siren and lights activated while responding to a fatal traffic crash when a 2012 Toyota Yaris entered the intersection at Southwest 24th Street at about 7:45 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Florida Highway Patrol investigated the collision, which left a squad car flipped over in the Suncoast Schools Credit Union parking lot at 2325 Santa Barbara Blvd. There were three cars involved in the wreck, a press release said.

The police vehicle swerved through the intersection, off the road and ended up on its roof in the Suncoast Schools Credit Union parking lot at 2325 Santa Barbara Blvd, the highway patrol said. The vehicle hit a Dodge Ram truck, but the occupant of the Dodge sustained no injuries.

The police officer was driving the 2007 Ford Crown Victoria at intersection of Southeast 24th St. in Cape Coral. He had his siren and lights activated due to responding to a “fatal traffic crash.”

The officer was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, the department said.
