LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — An FBI hazardous materials unit found a potentially hazardous substance Sunday at a house on 3700 Gene Ave. in Lehigh Acres, the FBI said.

The FBI wouldn’t say what the substance might be. It’s headed to a lab for analysis.

A man was taken from the home in handcuffs, neighbors said. They also said they saw three children escorted out of the house.

Traffic on Gene Avenue is blocked off near the scene close to 38th Street West, where a fire truck from Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District was also present. The investigation was still ongoing as of 7 p.m. Sunday, when a Fort Myers Fire Department truck arrived on scene, and officials from that department said they’d be sending their own hazmat team.

All agencies departed the scene by 9 p.m.

A federal judge approved the FBI search at the home, which is owned by William and Celeste Lee, according to Lee County Property Appraiser records.

No additional information was immediately available.
