NAPLES, Fla. – Worries over possible clown sightings prompted Collier County school district officials to place Pine Ridge Middle School on a Code Yellow lockdown Wednesday morning. Greg Turchetta, director of communications at Collier County Public Schools, said the school district got word of “some vague social media chatter” around 8 a.m. People were planning to visit Collier County schools in frightening clown outfits, deputies later confirmed. The lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m. There were no clown sightings Wednesday, according to Michelle Batton of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. But the concern over clown scares continues in the area through Halloween, which is the time period given in social media plans, according to CCSO. The hysteria over creepy clown sightings is growing as reports of incidents spread across the country.
