FORT MYERS, Fla. – A 30-year-old man arrested for violating his probation has ties to one of the weapons recovered from the Club Blu shooting, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said. In addition to the probation violation, George Vance Thompson III, of 8451 Buckingham Road in Fort Myers, also faces multiple weapons and drug possession charges. He remained in the Lee County jail Saturday under no bond. “Thompson had ties to one of the weapons recovered from the Club Blu shooting and is a suspected weapons supplier to a local gang,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The department did not elaborate on Thompson’s connection to the weapon. Two people were killed and 18 others wounded after gunfire erupted outside Club Blu shortly after midnight on July 25. The club has not reopened since and multiple lawsuits have been filed in connection with the shooting. Authorities found 254 grams of marijuana, 22 grams of cocaine and three guns, one of which deputies said was stolen, inside a residence, the sheriff’s office said. Thompson’s next scheduled court appearance is September 26.
