First disturbance more than a month before official start of 2024 Atlantic Hurricane SeasonPainting rain barrels for a good cause
Courtesy of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office SARASOTA, Fla. — A washed out drainage pipe caused two sizable holes to open on State Road 72, prompting the closure of the route connecting Arcadia and Sarasota. Both directions of the highway are shut down from Myakka State Park Road to Sidell Road, Florida Highway Patrol said. Rains from Hurricane Hermine are the root cause, Florida Department of Transportation officials told the Lakeland Ledger. It’s unclear when the road will reopen as crews work to repair the damage.
