FORT MYERS, Fla. – About $121,000 worth of Amazon orders were found inside the home of a 36-year-old Lehigh Acres man, who also attempted to extort additional funds from corporate security investigators, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Julio Hernandez, of 1216 Albermarle Circle, will face charges of cargo theft and extortion.

Hernandez was released from the Lee County jail Saturday after posting a $40,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 19.

Detectives began investigating the theft in July, focusing on Hernandez, a driver for a subcontracted transport company.

“The stolen merchandise, which was compiled of single orders from several thousand Amazon.com customers, was later located at the residence of the suspect after a search warrant was served,” the department said in a statement. “The suspect’s garage was literally stacked floor-to-ceiling with Amazon containers.”

Authorities did not say what was in the containers or if their final destination was Southwest Florida.
