RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. (WXIN) — A pig plopped on the front porch. A dead rat in the freezer.

Deputies said they found deplorable conditions at a home where three children live, prompting authorities to arrest parents Ralph and Amy McKinny after they arrived at the residence for an unrelated investigation.

“It’s absolutely horrible,” Randolph County Sheriff Ken Hendrickson said. “These parents have chosen to live this way, but these children don’t have a choice, so that’s when we have to step in.”

Hendrickson said cockroaches were running rampant and fecal matter was strewn about the manufactured home where the children range in age from 11-17.

At least six raccoons were in cages on the property. The pig was going in and out of the home for feedings. A few dogs and a couple of chinchillas were taken from the home to the animal shelter.

Hendrickson called it one of the worst cases he’s seen in 30 years of law enforcement.
